The Railrodder

“…This short film from director Gerald Potterton (Heavy Metal) stars Buster Keaton in one of the last films of his long career. As “the railrodder”, Keaton crosses Canada from east to west on a railway track speeder. True to Keaton’s genre, the film is full of sight gags as our protagonist putt-putts his way to British Columbia. Not a word is spoken throughout, and Keaton is as spry and ingenious at fetching laughs as he was in the old days of the silent slapsticks.

Directed by Gerald Potterton – 1965…”

Picture Play

I’ve spent a lot of time studying new ideas and techniques during this unscheduled “vacation,” no sense in wasting time, after all. And never fear, I’ve worked in plenty of naps as well. But, every now and then I have to take a little time to keep current on some core abilities, like playing with pictures. So for this I took two existing shots of Kim that I had already combined into one shot in the past, and stripped out the original backdrop and added a shot from a large collection I picked up for future green screen work.

Masks & Stores

Him: “What is the difference between a store that won’t allow people to come in without masks or limiting how many can come in and refusing to bake a cake for somebody?”

Me: “One is a store setting limits on people based on what they consider safety standards, and if customers don’t, they can be asked to leave, and if they don’t, they’re trespassing. The cake incident was a violation of the state’s anti-discrimination laws, people not wearing masks or wanting to have more people in a shop are not a recognized minority or group protected from discrimination.”

Vaccine Chips?

I’m amused by the thought of people on their trackable cellphones and computers with their traceable IPs and VPNs worrying that somebody is going to figure out how to slip tracking chips into their vaccines.

Mail-In Voted

Dropped off my mail-in ballot, pretty simple and easy process. Got to thinking how much easier it makes voting for people that have to work and who won’t be given time off to vote. It’s almost like forcing people to work on election day is a form of voter suppression. I suppose that is what all the kerfluffle is about, can’t have the great unwashed voting, they might not vote the ‘right way,’ or at least that’s what I hear when people gripe about voting by mail. I mean how dare we open the franchise of the vote to working people.
